Villa Alemana ( Spanish: German City ) is a city in central Chile. It is located in the Región de Valparaíso . It has 125,327 inhabitants (as of 2017).
Geography and climate
The city is located about 25 km east of Valparaíso and belongs to the Valparaíso agglomeration , a group of cities. The city itself forms the Villa Alemana commune, as it also owns the city of Peñablanca . In the east of the municipality there are some mountains, of which the Tres Puntes is the highest at 1032 m.
The climate is Mediterranean.
history
Before the Spanish colonization, the Picunche people lived in the area around the city.
In 1891 a railway line was built in the area of Villa Alemana. From 1893 a settlement called 'Alto de Villa Alemana' was formed on the way from Valparaíso to Limache . A particularly large number of Germans settled in the city area. The city was founded on November 8, 1894, and in the same year the city received a train station.
In 1906 the city was badly damaged by a severe earthquake . On March 27, 1908, President Pedro Montt officially granted the city city rights. On January 5, 1918, the Villa Alemana Commune was formed.

Attractions
Villa Alemana calls itself La Ciudad de Los Molinos , the city of mills that used to be used to supply water. The city is criss-crossed by traditional architecture. The theater Teatro Pompeya of 1926 invites to cultural events.
In the vicinity of Villa Alemana is the Valle Dorado , a 9 hectare forest area, which is ideal for excursions.
