Architecture and history

The very large representative villa was built in 1893 in the style of historicism . The builder was Albert Baur , who was known as the developer of the artificial musk and became an honorary citizen of Gernrode. The building is also known as Haus Baur or Haus Spichalski . At the time of construction the address was Vor dem Ostentor 364a , until 1908 the address was changed to Bahnhofstraße 23 . The name Irma was based on the first name of his wife Baurs. In the design, the regional tradition of half-timbered construction was cited through a split gable and the use of decorative framework . In addition, there are echoes of the forms of the Renaissance with bay windows , tower and Welsche hoods . There is a polygonal corner tower at the north corner of the building. On the southern gable side there is an entrance risalit and a half-timbered bay window.

The covering of the villa presents itself as a moving roof landscape.

Later the villa served as a boarding school for the Queen Luisen Band . In 1933, the Association of German Girls (BDM) took over the facility.

After the end of World War II , the Soviet occupation forces set up a command post here on July 1, 1945 . In the 1950s, the new owner Spichalski set up a restaurant with high standards in the villa. Later the company holiday home " Thomas Münzer " was set up in the house . During this time, a dining room that was not adapted to the architecture of the building was added to the building. In 1991 it was transferred back to Mr. Spichalski as the former owner. The house then stood empty for a long time and fell into disrepair, but was then given a new owner on September 1, 2010. The building was then renovated.

Until December 31, 2011 Otto-Franke-Straße was called Bahnhofstraße, so that the address of the building was Bahnhofstraße 23 until then.

The villa is surrounded by a garden, with remnants of the original planting still preserved. There are also still plastered pillars as parts of the building site fencing.
