The Villa Sophienhöhe is a listed building near Niederbolheim , a district of Kerpen in the Rhein-Erft district , Sophienhöhe 3.

The villa towers high over the eastern bank of the Neffelbach . It is embedded in a strip of forest that is part of the landscape protection area. The house was entered on May 15, 1990 under No. 228 in the list of architectural monuments in Blatzheim .

history

The building was built in 1899 by the landowner Josef Bollig zu Schneppenheim and his wife Sophia. Sophia was a born Stollwerck and belonged to the Cologne factory owner family of the same name , which mainly made a name for itself with its chocolate factory . The villa, which was built for the married couple's wedding, was then part of the Niederbolheim Castle and Antoniterhof as a mansion . Gut Antoniterhof and the villa later became the property of the Cologne grammar school and foundation fund . In 1939 a businessman from Düsseldorf bought the property. He produced silver cleaning cloths in the basement . In the Second World War , the villa was used as officers' and hospital use. The house was so badly damaged by the effects of the war that it was hardly habitable.

At the end of the 1940s, the LVA Rheinprovinz in Düsseldorf acquired the ruins. After reconstruction and renovation, the villa served as a pulmonary hospital for children up to the age of 18 from the late 1940s to the late 1950s .

In 1960 the von Ullisperger family bought the villa. The host was an inventor and tinkerer. He has many patents . The property was used for the manufacture of manicure implements , sewing machine threaders , and much more. He exported the manufactured goods from Niederbolheim worldwide. A son ran a large printing shop in the basement . After the owner's death in 1997, the Stump family bought the property. Anita and Werner Stump , former district administrators of the Rhein-Erft district, had the villa extensively renovated.
