Vincent Kehrwand

Vincent Kehrwand (born February 14, 1803 in Rolle , † December 1, 1857 ibid) was a Swiss politician and judge . From 1850 to 1857 he was a member of the National Council.

biography

Kehrwand, whose family originally came from Aarberg , was the son of a tax collector. From 1822 he studied law at the Lausanne Academy . He joined the fraternities. He joined the student associations Belles-Lettres and Zofingia . From 1826 he worked as a lawyer in Nyon , later also as a criminal judge . Kehrwand was a canton judge from 1845 to 1851 , then a substitute judge at the federal court until 1854 . He was also deputy public prosecutor from 1852 until his death.

In 1836, Kehrwand was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Vaud on the side of the radical liberals , to which he belonged until 1844 and again in 1845/46. He helped expand the jury to include civil cases and reform civil procedural law. He was also interested in the issues of education. In March 1850, he entered the National Council by by -election in the Vaud-West constituency , to which he was a member for the remaining seven years.
