Vincentas Borisevičius

Vincentas Borisevičius (born November 23, 1887 in Bebrininkai , Vilkaviškis district , † November 18, 1946 ) was the Lithuanian bishop of Telšiai and is a candidate for the blessed .

Training, vicariate

From 1903 to 1909 he studied and graduated from the seminary in Sejny, Poland . He then continued his education at the University of Friborg in Switzerland . In 1910 he became a licentiate in theology and was later ordained a priest (1910). From 1927 to 1940 he was the first rain of the new Telšiai seminary .

On February 3, 1940 he was named titular bishop of Lysias and appointed auxiliary bishop in Telšiai. Vincentas Borisevičius was ordained bishop on March 10th. After the occupation of Lithuania by Soviet Russia , he protested against the persecution of the Catholic Church. In 1944 he became Bishop of Telšiai. In 1946 Borisevičius was arrested, tortured in prison and sentenced to death .

On November 18, 1946, he was shot and buried in Tuskulėnai . In September 1999 his remains were found and buried in the crypt of St. Antan Paduven's Cathedral in Telšiai . Borisevičius had been interned as leverage to allow a bishops' conference on February 21, 1946 to run in the interests of the Soviets. The Vatican could do little to help, it only increased the broadcasting of the Lithuanian programs on Vatican Radio .

In 1999 he was posthumously awarded the Order of the Vytis Cross .
