Obama ( Japanese 小 浜 市 , - shi , dt. "Small beach") is a city in the prefecture of Fukui , Japan .

Obama is located south of Fukui and north of Kyoto on Wakasa Bay .
history
Obama is an old royal seat that was ruled by the following daimyo:
- 1585-1600, Kinoshita
- 1600-1634, Kyōgoku
- 1634–1868, Sakai with 103,500 koku incomes.
Obama was granted city status on January 15, 1955 .

In 2008, the city of Obama supported the candidacy of American presidential candidate Barack Obama . She hoped this would have a positive impact on the tourism business. Numerous media reported in February 2008 about the name relationship.
Attractions
Remnants of Obama's extensive castle complex have been preserved. In Obama there is the Kūin Temple ( 空 印 寺 , Kūin-ji ) near which there is a cave, which is considered the place of death of the Happyaku Bikuni . - Another temple is Myōtsū-ji , located in the mountains , whose main hall and pagoda are registered as a national treasure.
