The urban area is 11.3 km 2 and does not contain any bodies of water.
history
Vinita, Oklahoma is the second oldest city in the state of Oklahoma. It was founded in 1871 when two railroad lines reached this area (Atlantic & Pacific and Missouri-Kansas-Texas). At that time it was called Downingville . The name was later changed to Vinita after the sculptor Vinnie Ream , the creator of the life-size Abraham Lincoln statue on the United States Capitol.
