Violet Webb

Violet Blanche Webb (born February 3, 1915 in Willesden , † May 27, 1999 in Northwood ) was a British athlete and Olympian.

At the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 1932 , she won the bronze medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay race together with her teammates Eileen Hiscock , Gwendoline Porter and Nellie Halstead , behind the team from USA and the team from Canada . In the 80-meter hurdles she was fifth in 11.9 seconds, two tenths of a second behind the winner, Mildred Didrikson .

At the British Empire Games in London in 1934 , Violet Webb was third with 5.23 meters. Two years later she set her fifth British national record on the hurdles course with 11.7 seconds, and reached the semifinals at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin.

With a height of 1.73 m, her competition weight was 60 kg. In 1937 she ended her sporting career and married Harry Simpson. Her daughter Janet Simpson (1944-2010) also won the bronze medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay in 1964.
