Nellie Halstead

Nellie Halstead (born September 19, 1910 , † November 1991 ) was a British athlete and Olympian.

Sporting successes

In 1931 and 1932, she set three world records in the 400-meter run . At the British Empire Games in London in 1934 she won the bronze medal over 200 yards, behind the Englishwoman Eileen Hiscock and the Canadian Aileen Meagher (silver).

At the British Championships, Halstead won the gold medal over 100 yards in 1931 and in the 200-meter run she won the gold medal in 1934. She won gold over 440 yards in 1931 and 1932 and gold in the 400-meter run in 1933 and 1937. She won gold in the 800-meter run in 1935 and 1938. In the cross-country run, she won gold in 1935 and 1936.

At the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles , she won the bronze medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay race together with her teammates Eileen Hiscock , Gwendoline Porter and Violet Webb , behind the team from the USA and the team from Canada .
