Viskan in Borås |
Viskan is the northernmost of the four major rivers on Sweden's west coast.
The 140 km long body of water is the outflow of Lake Tolken , which lies west of Ulricehamn . The river flows through Borås and then takes in the rivers Häggån, Surteån and a few others. The river flows into the Kattegat about 15 km from the center of Varberg . There has been a railway line, Viskadalsbanan , since 1880 , which largely follows the river.
In the past, the hydroelectric power of the Viskan made it possible to set up several weaving mills , which had a positive impact on the region's economic development.
