Vitaliano VI. Borromeo
Vitaliano VI. Borromeo (born April 20, 1620 in Milan , † October 8, 1690 ibid) was a member of the Lombard - Piedmontese noble family Borromeo .
Life
Vitaliano was the third son of Carlo III. Borromeo and Isabella D'Adda were born. Like his brother Giberto , he studied law in Rome and Pavia . He then pursued a military career and took part in the Franco - Spanish War (1647/1648). The Spanish crown entrusted him with several diplomatic assignments until, from 1650 onwards, he was busy with the expansion and artistic decoration of the Borromean Palace and the refinement of the gardens on Isola Bella in Lake Maggiore .
He won over important architects and painters for this ambitious project and was thus able to put together one of the outstanding collections of paintings of his time. One of the artists commissioned by him was Pieter Mulier the Elder. J. , known as “il Tempesta”, whom he had freed from Genoa prison , where he was imprisoned for the murder of his wife.
Vitaliano Borromeo died in Milan in 1690, his heart is buried on Isola Bella.
