Vitalis Chikoko (born February 11, 1991 in Harare ) is a Zimbabwean basketball player .
career
Chikoko, the son of a nurse and a government official, grew up in Harare . His father played soccer and his sister was an athlete, while Chikoko, who was nicknamed "Alefu" (German: The Great) in his homeland, initially played soccer, cricket and tennis before turning to basketball.
As a schoolboy, he made the leap into the squad of the local first division team Dzivarasekwa Raiders. He played for two years for the Raiders, in the 2010/11 season he ran for Mbare Heat and won the Zimbabwean championship with the team.
Chikoko made the leap to Germany in 2011: He played for the BG Göttingen in the basketball league and with a “double license” for the ASC 1846 Göttingen in the regional league. With the BG he was relegated from the Bundesliga, Chikoko then moved to the TBB Trier . With the Moselans he continued his development in the Bundesliga, in the 2013 summer break he took part in the NBA summer league in the Houston Rockets shirt . He left Trier in spring 2015 to end the 2014/15 season with the Italian first division club Pallacanestro Reggiana .
In the first half of the 2015/16 season he was under contract with the Italian second division club Verona, in spring 2016 Chikoko was signed by Bayern Munich and given a contract until the end of the season.
For the 2016/17 season, Chikoko signed with the French first division club Pau-Orthez . Between April and October 2017 he was "out of action" due to a foot injury. In the summer break of 2019, he moved to Levallois Metropolitans within the French league , after shining for Pau-Orthez during the 2018/19 season with averages of 15.3 points and 7.8 rebounds.
