Viveca Anne Bergstedt Sten (born June 18, 1959 in Stockholm , Sweden ) is a Swedish writer and lawyer. She became known from 2008 for her detective novels about the two main characters Inspector Thomas Andreasson and his childhood friend Nora Linde. The scene of the action is largely Sandhamn (actually Sandön) in the Stockholm archipelago . The Swedish television miniseries Murder in Midsummer is based on the first three books by Sten.

Life

Viveca Sten was born in Stockholm, where she grew up. Coming from a family of lawyers, she decided to study law at Stockholm University . She then worked as a lawyer at the Swedish Post. She had only published legal textbooks until she published her first novel, Deadly Midsummer 2008. Since then, she has published a detective novel every year from 2008 to 2014.

Sten is married and has three children. She lives with her family in a suburb north of Stockholm. She has spent every summer on Sandhamn in the archipelago since she was a child , as her family has owned a house there since 1917. That's why her crime novels are set on Sandhamn.

In Sweden, Sten has sold over 500,000 copies of her books since 2008.

Movies

Viveca Sten's books have been filmed in Sweden since 2010 in the crime series Murder in Midsummer . For some episodes, Sten wrote the script himself. Six of the eight books had been filmed by the beginning of 2018.
