Vizontele is a Turkish film from 2001. It is set in 1974 in a sleepy eastern Anatolian town. A lot has changed in this city with the arrival of the first television. The continuation of the box office success is Vizontele Tuuba .
action
In a small village in the Gevaş district of the Van province , life slumbered around 1974 and time seems to have stood still. People go to the cinema with great passion, and their apparent isolation from the rest of the world doesn't seem to bother them. When suddenly a television, a wonderful "radio with pictures", arrives from Ankara , it turns the village upside down and Mayor Nazmi senses his great opportunity. The only cinema owner in town sees his business threatened by television.
The mayor instructs Deli Emin, who is the only one with a clue about technology and electronics, to get the television on. Instead of Televizyon (Turkish for television), he calls the device Vizontele. Several attempts, such as B. climbing a mountain to get a better signal will fail. In the end, however, the TV runs by chance and the mayor invites the people of the village to the premiere. Unfortunately, the news reports that the Turkish army marched into Cyprus , killing a son of the mayor who had recently served in the military. Thus the television brought bad luck news. The mayor's wife ends up burying the television through Deli Emin.

criticism
Janis El-Bira wrote on Filmzentrale.de: Yılmaz Erdoğan's Vizontele is a very successful debut that should be seen as a cinema freak who is open to European and Asia Minor regions. It is to be hoped that this work will also be the start of international fame for the talented director!
