Vladimír Borovička (born March 25, 1954 in Děčín ) is a former Czech football player and current football coach .
Club career
Borovička played for Kovo Děčín until 1976, for the 1976/77 season the goalkeeper moved to FC Bohemians Prague , where he was number two behind the same age Zdeněk Hruška and came to 29 missions in four years. In the 1980/81 season he did his military service at Dukla Banská Bystrica as a regular goalkeeper. He returned to Bohemians and was again a replacement for Hruška, only in the 1984/85 season he pushed his competitor out of the gate. Borovička's position was further strengthened by Hruška's move to Slavia Prague after the end of the season. In 1986 Borovička also left Bohemians and moved to Austria for FK Austria Wien . He went there knowing that he was replacing Franz Wohlfahrt . In two years Borovička did not play a single competitive game for Austria. He ended his career at SC Zwettl .
National team
Vladimír Borovička wore the dress of the Czechoslovak national team four times . He made his debut on September 5, 1984 in the game Greece against Czechoslovakia, which the guests won 1-0. Furthermore, he played on March 27, 1985 in Sion against Switzerland , the ČSSR lost 2-0. On April 21, 1985 he was in goal in the 0-0 win against Malta , Borovička's last international match was a 5-1 win for Czechoslovakia against Germany on April 30, 1985.
Coaching career
Vladimír Borovička mostly worked as an assistant coach . In the 1994/95 season he was interim coach at Sparta Prague, and he was briefly head coach at FC Bohemians Prague in the 1996/97 season. In the 2001/02 season he replaced Vlastimil Petržela three game days before the end of the season and got the chance to lead the team as the main coach in the 2002/03 season. After four defeats at the beginning he was fired and replaced by Dušan Uhrin junior . When Petržela became a coach at Zenit St. Petersburg in 2003 , he took Borovička with him as an assistant.
