Vladimír Wolf

Vladimír Wolf (born February 4, 1942 in Jaroměř ; † December 23, 2019 in Hradec Králové ) was a Czech historian , archivist and university professor . From 1999 to 2005 he was dean of the Pedagogical Faculty of the University of Hradec Králové .

Live and act

Wolf came from a family of railroad workers. After graduating from the Jaroměř grammar school, he began studying Czech history in 1959 at the Philosophical Faculty of the Palacký University in Olomouc . Between 1965 and 1970 he worked as a historian at the "Muzeum Podkrkonoší" ( Museum of the Giant Mountains ) in Trutnov . During normalization , Wolf lost his job because of his politically inconsistent views and initially worked at the Archaeological Institute of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences as an excavation brigadier. From 1974 he was company archivist and from 1989 deputy director for personnel and social affairs at the company "Texlen" in Trutnov. After the Velvet Revolution he became a member of the Trutnov City Council in 1989.

From 1991 Wolf taught at the University of Hradec Králové, from 1993 as a lecturer and from 2000 as professor and head of the Institute of History. From 1996 to 1999 he was Vice Dean and from 1999 to 2005 Dean of the Faculty of Education. He was also a member of the Historical Geography Committee at the Institute for History of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic .

As a regional historian, Wolf dealt with the history of the Giant Mountains foothills and the East Bohemian textile industry. As chairman of the "Kladská komise historiků" (Commission of Historians for the Kłodzko Land ) founded in 1993, he was the editor and editor of the Kladský sborník ( Kłodzko Almanac ).
