Michel Auclair (actually Vladimir Vujović ; born September 14, 1922 in Koblenz , † January 7, 1988 in Fayence ) was a French actor .

Life

Michel Auclair was born in Koblenz as the son of a Serb and a French woman. His father, Vojislav Vujović , was a well-known Serbian communist and secretary of the Communist Youth International .

Auclair moved to Paris with his mother at the age of three. He attended the Paris Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique and made his stage debut at the Théâtre des Mathurins in 1942 . Jean Cocteau encouraged him early on, so that Auclair appeared in Cocteau's plays at various theaters in Paris. Auclair also took on other roles in plays by Jean Anouilh and Paul Claudel .

Auclair got into film in 1945. As Ludovic, brother of the heroine Josette Day and Jean Marais ' opponent in Cocteau's Once Upon a Time , Auclair became known to a wider film audience in 1946. He subsequently played mostly gallant lovers like Des Grieux in Henri-Georges Clouzot's version of Manon Lescaut (1949). In later years he played roles in dubious characters ( The Avenger from the Coffin , The Jackal , A Thousand Billion Dollars ). Auclair was often seen at the side of Alain Delon, including in The Devil's Weapon , Killers Don't Introduce themselves and Save Your Skin, Killer .

Auclair died in 1988 and was buried in the Saint-Paul-en-Forêt cemetery.
