action
Leon Lescaut, a resistance fighter in the French Resistance , falls in love with the girl Manon, who collaborated with the Nazis . When Manon is supposed to be lynched by the villagers because of their ties to the enemy, both of them flee first to Paris , where they are involved in criminal machinations, and then on to Palestine . Rescue seems so close, but Manon dies from a bullet in a raid by desert robbers.
In order to reach the goal of the “Holy Land” and to bury Manon, Leon carries her through the desert and thus expresses his boundless love for her.
Reviews
“An often cold and cruel-looking film, which nevertheless exudes great power in terms of design and presentation. Exemplary for the new psychological realism of the post-war years in France. "
