Andrex
André Jaubert , known as Andrex (born January 23, 1907 in Marseille , † July 10, 1989 in Paris ), was a French actor and singer .
Life
André Jaubert was born in 1907 in Marseille at 105 rue Saint-Pierre. In the Copello School he met Fernandel , with whom he had a lifelong friendship. Fernandel also helped him get film roles. All the directors who worked with Andrex knew Fernandel.
His first appearance as a singer, after preparation by Maurice Chevalier , he had as a singer at the Alcazar in Marseille. Later he also performed in Paris. Then he turned to the theater and operetta. In 1931 he stood in front of the camera for the first time in the short film Une idée by génie by Louis Mercanton . In 1933 he played for the first time with his childhood friend Fernandel. Together they made 29 films in which Fernandel, who became famous relatively quickly, often organized a role for him.
Andrex pursued his career as an actor as well as that as a singer. He sang songs like Comme de bien entendu , La Samba brésilienne and Chez Bébert (le monte-en-l'air) , which was his greatest success. The title of his memoir alludes to this song: On ne danse plus la java chez Bébert .
Brigitte Fontaine paid tribute to him in her album kékéland. In the early 1970s he starred in television series and in the film Le Petit Théâtre by Jean Renoir (1970).
In 1971 his wife, the actress Ginette Baudin (1921–1971), and his friend Fernandel, who had repeatedly helped him to get smaller roles, died.
In 1973 he took part in the recording of French chansons from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s; these were published on two discs by Musidisc-Europe.
In 1979 he starred in the film Charles et Lucie by Nelly Kaplan . His last film was Cap Canaille by Juliet Berto and Jean-Henri Roger in 1983 .
He died on July 10, 1989 in Paris after a heart attack. He rests next to his wife in the Saint-Ouen cemetery .
