vocaldente ( own spelling ) are an international a cappella quintet from Hanover.
history
In 2004 Vocaldente was founded by five men from the ranks of the Hanover Boys Choir and students of the Hanover University of Music and Theater .
Vocaldentees usually sing acoustically, i.e. without any technical aids. Her repertoire includes popular music of the past 100 years and consists exclusively of their own arrangements. Concert tours have taken the ensemble to numerous countries in Europe, Asia and several times to the USA.
Vocaldente are prizewinners at the most famous a cappella competitions at home and abroad, the group won 1st prize at the Tampereen Sävel 2007 in Tampere (Finland) and 1st prize at the Taiwan International Contemporary A Cappella Competition 2008 in Taipei (Taiwan) and 1st prize at the Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival 2008 in San Francisco (USA), making them the first non-English speaking group to win this title and only the second non-American at all. In addition, Vocaldente were successful in 2007 at the HypoVereinsbank youth cultural advancement award in Germany and at the international a cappella competition vokal.total in Graz (Austria) and received the audience award for the best group everywhere. In Taiwan they were awarded the special prize for the best choreography and stage presence at the largest international vocal competition in Asia. In 2011 they won the Hanns Seidel Foundation's young talent award on the occasion of the Songs Festival on a summer evening .
After the album “Let's Misbehave” from 2006 and the single “… then it's summer” from 2007, a new album by Vocaldente was released at the end of May 2009 with “gold 'n' delicious”.
On June 20, 2009 Vocaldente celebrated their 5th anniversary with a concert that was recorded on DVD in the Balver Höhle in Sauerland (where the “MTV Unplugged Concert” of the Fantastischen Vier took place).
repertoire
The ensemble's repertoire includes popular music from the past 100 years and ranges from the “Maple Leaf Rag” from 1904, evergreens from the Roaring Twenties and hits from the Ufa era (such as “Can you whistle, Johanna?” Or “Wenn der white lilac again blooms ”), about swing and rock'n'roll (such as“ Everybody Loves Somebody ”or“ The Wanderer ”), classics from ABBA (“ Mamma Mia ”), Queen (“ Don't Stop Me Now ”) and Toto ("Rosanna"), country songs (such as John Denver's "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" and "Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavor (On the Bedpost Overnight)"), hits of the eighties (such as "Faith") , "Footloose" or "Maniac") and nineties (such as a "boy group medley", the "3-day beard" from the doctors or "You don't see me" by Xavier Naidoo) to current chart successes ( like "A Thousand Miles" and "Crawling" by Linkin Park or "When You Say Nothing at All") and original compositions (like the "Sommersong" and the "Bettgeschichte"). The program "startin 'something" and "home stories" includes a twelve-minute Michael Jackson medley.
Workshops
In the past few years, vocaldente have increasingly dedicated themselves to educational work with children and young people through to adults, alone or in groups in ensembles, classes and choirs. With graduates of the University of Music, Drama and Media Hanover, the University of Music and Dance Cologne, and the University of Hildesheim in the courses of high school teaching for music, culture and singing education in their own ranks, vocaldente were able to gain experience at workshops with music enthusiasts.
In recent years, vocaldente has developed concepts for workshops on a wide variety of topics such as voice, vocal sound, phrasing, breathing technique, ensemble and choral singing, rhythm and voice, instrument imitations, mouth percussion, intonation, blending, groove, staging / behavior on stage, presentation, miking , Marketing. Depending on the workshop group, the focus of the strongly practice-oriented courses was on basic objectives, such as discovering one's own voice as an instrument, making music together in a group, through to complex learning content such as additive patterns, group sound, and ready-to-use stage performance.
