The Vogelsangbach is a 1251 meter long brook in the Wuppertal district of Uellendahl-Katernberg and the right tributary of the Mirker Bach .
etymology
The name of the stream comes from an old place name "Am Vogelsang", which was mentioned in 1551. It is not clear whether the name suggests an area that was once rich in birds. A street was first described in the address book of the city of Elberfeld in 1850 with the name Vogelsang , today it is called Vogelsangstraße .
topography
The stream rises at around 268 meters above sea level on the Wuppertaler Nordhöhen near the confluence of the Domagkweg and Vogelsangstraße in the middle of the park-like Mirker Hain and flows through it in a southerly direction. It joins here with numerous smaller tributaries and forms a gorge that is classified as a geological natural monument .
After about 720 meters below the source, it has reached the area of the “Mirke” open-air pool and passes under it, piped in a south-easterly direction. In the vicinity of an allotment garden , it runs about 100 meters on the surface, and then flows again piped up to the mouth near the Teschemacher Hof . The Vogelsangbach flows into the Mirker Bach at around 183 meters above sea level, which in turn flows into the Wupper .
