Furniture from the time the museum was founded

history

Half-timbered gable of the house of Johann Georg Wunderlich with Egerland influences

In the 1950s, the rural desert farmer Walter Wunderlich became aware of objects and evidence of “old” rural life while doing research for a local history. These had become superfluous as a result of the industrialization and cooperativeisation of agriculture in the GDR and were now found in barns, attics and cellars. In the Vogtland region he collected a large number of materials at random. In the early 1960s, as a result of this collecting activity, a home parlor was opened in Landwüst, and in 1968 the Landwüst Farming Museum was founded in the house of Johann Georg Wunderlich. Today's open-air museum has developed from this since the 1970s .

Buildings / courtyards

A large part of the museum's residential and farm buildings have been preserved in situ , so existing houses at the place where they were built were converted. Around 20 buildings, most of which are accessible to visitors, form four courtyards with residential stables , associated barns and shed houses . There are also cattle scales, a bakery and an apiary, and the kultur.tenne as an exhibition and event barn .
