Dimitri Vojnov (* 1946 in Ressen, Bulgaria , as Dimtre Voynov ) is a Bulgarian-German painter , sculptor and graphic artist.

Life

Dimitri Vojnov studied from 1967 to 1972 at the National Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia (now the National Art Academy ) with Alexander Poplilov. From 1972 to 1981 he worked as a freelance artist in the fields of painting and graphics. From 1981 to 1985 he taught painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia. In 1986 he came to Germany and first lived for a long time in Berlin with his own gallery. He has been a German citizen since 1986.

Vojnov lives and works in Kelkheim - Ruppertshain .

Artistic concept and work

Vojnov is primarily a painter of surrealism . The classic academic training can be seen in his pictures. A spectacle often takes place there, with sometimes grotesquely distorted, caricaturing images in which half-silky or decadent worlds emerge with a strongly erotic basic tendency. The colorful acrylic and oil paintings are also often a tribute to the great artists and masters of bygone eras. In his book My teachers are Joseph Beuys , Pablo Picasso , Claude Monet , Rembrandt van Rijn , Vincent van Gogh , Salvador Dali and Jan Vermeer recorded. It shows his great interest in the great painters of art history and the Renaissance.

Sometimes his works also have a socio-political note, as in the work The Robbery of Europe , which symbolically represents the political disunity of Europe.

In 2002 he caused a scandal with his work Paris Bar in Berlin. Even the Bulgarian President had announced that he would attend the vernissage at the Bulgarian Cultural Institute, but the Bild newspaper finally discovered a pierced nipple on the portrait of the naked Klaus Wowereit and wrote it up as a scandal.

In 2007 his works were presented at the international art fair Berliner Liste . In March 2016 Dimitri Vojnov presented his latest work Nightmare of a Chancellor .

His works are publicly accessible in the district office of the Main-Taunus district and in the Kelkheim town hall. Dimitri Vojnov is permanently represented in the following institutions:
