Voldemar Herkel

Voldemar Herkel (born January 4, 1929 in Kulna, rural community Keila , Estonia ; † January 31, 2019 ) was an Estonian architect .

Life

Voldemar Herkel graduated from high school in Tallinn in 1948. He finished his studies in 1953 at the Polytechnic Institute in Tallinn (today Tallinn University of Technology ). From 1961 to 1988 Herkel taught at the State Art Institute of the Estonian SSR (ERKI), from 1970 with the title of professor.

From 1965 to 1988, Herkel was Deputy Chairman of the State Building Committee of the Estonian SSR. From 1979 to 1988 he was chairman of the Estonian SSR Architects' Association ( Eesti NSV Arhitektide Liit ).

In 1967 he was awarded the “Honored Architect of the Estonian SSR”, in 1971 he received the State Prize of the USSR , in 1985 the State Prize of the Estonian SSR.

  • Cafe "Merepiiga" in Rannamõisa (1967, burned down in 1992)
  • Restaurant "Kaunas" in Tartu (1969, today disco and restaurant "Atlantis")
  • Building for the Estonian industrial project ("Eesti Tööstusprojekt") in Tallinn, Rävala puiestee 6 (1963, together with Ülo Ilves )
  • Urban planning by Saku , Kurtna and Vinni (1971)
  • General plan for the Tallinn district of Lasnamäe
