Volker Müller (journalist)

Volker Müller (born January 5, 1952 in Plauen , Vogtland) is a German journalist and writer .

Life

Müller grew up as the first of three siblings in Hohndorf , east Thuringia, between Greiz and Plauen, in simple circumstances. In 1970 he passed the Abitur in Greiz, studied from 1970 to 1974 at the Erfurt / Mühlhausen University of Education, where he graduated as a certified teacher in the field of German / Russian. After three years of teaching in the Potsdam-Land district, Müller studied music at the Robert Schumann Conservatory in Zwickau from 1978 to 1980 . Between 1977 and 1984 he was a clarinetist in the Greiz State Symphony Orchestra, from 1984 to 1986 he worked in the district cabinet for cultural work in Gera, after which he worked as a dance musician in Greiz until 1990. From 1990 to 1994 Müller trained as an editor at the Frankenpost and worked until 1997 as Greizer local editor of the “ Thüringenpost ”.

Since April 1998 Müller has been working as a freelance journalist and writer. In 2009 his first play was performed with “The Prize Winner”. Müller had already written as a schoolboy and belonged to the opposition Greizer circle around the poet Günter Ullmann .

Müller, who has lived in Greiz since 1977, is married and has two children.

Awards

  • In 1999 and 2004 Müller received author grants from the Free State of Thuringia.
  • In April 2018 Müller received the first ever Vogtland Literature Prize in the field of fiction.
