Volker Münchow (born September 18, 1960 in Langenberg ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 2012 to 2017 he was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Life

Münchow attended the Langenberg high school and then completed an apprenticeship as an office clerk. He then attended a technical college and later studied economics at the University of Essen (without a degree). He then worked in Munich before becoming sales manager for a company in the Ruhr area. Later he was sales manager at a subsidiary of the Swedish Assa Abloy group. From 2001 to 2012 he was full-time managing director of the Velbert SPD city council group.

Münchow is married and lives in Velbert-Langenberg.

Münchow joined the SPD Langenberg in 1976. After various functions with the Young Socialists in Langenberg, he became involved in local politics. From 1979 he was a deputy knowledgeable citizen in the district committee Velbert-Langenberg. During his professional activity in Munich he took a break and only became active again in local politics in 1994. From 1994 to 2004 he was a knowledgeable citizen in various council committees. In 2004 he became a council member in Velbert and a member of the district council of the Mettmann district . From 2002 to 2014 he was deputy chairman of the SPD in the Mettmann district. In the state elections in 2010 he ran for the SPD in constituency 39 , but could not prevail against the CDU candidate Marc Ratajczak . In the early state parliament election in 2012 , he was elected to the state parliament with 42.7% of the votes, while Ratajczak was able to unite 33.3% of the votes. He was the deputy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group in the committee for Europe and One World, a member of the committee for sport, the subcommittee for state companies and special funds and of the inquiry committee IV financing options for public transport in North Rhine-Westphalia. Münchow was a deputy member of the committees for building, housing, urban development and transport, for local politics and for budgetary control

In the 78th plenary session of the state parliament on January 29, 2015, Münchow made an interjection to a speech by the FDP parliamentary group chairman Christian Lindner for a reply, which after a short time led to a great response on the Internet. Lindner attacked Münchow directly and told him that his interjection contradicted the speech given by Social Democratic Prime Minister Hannelore Kraft . The excerpt from the state parliament debate was posted two days later on two different Facebook pages ( Die Welt ; FDP Liberté) and reached audience numbers of over a million within a few hours.

In the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2017 , he was not re-elected. Münchow is the 2nd deputy mayor of the city of Velbert.

Volker Münchow is chairman of the state association of North Rhine-Westphalia of the Reichsbanner Schwarz-Rot-Gold , Bund aktiviver Democrats eV He is chairman of the workers welfare in Velbert and chairman of the German-Greek friendship association FILIA Velbert. He is a member of the board of the frigate friends of North Rhine-Westphalia . Münchow is the local representative of the technical relief organization THW local association Heiligenhaus / Wülfrath.
