Volker Mattausch

Volker Mattausch (* 1944 in Niemes ) is a German sports scientist , university professor and sports official .

Life

Mattausch studied at the German University for Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig , his diploma thesis, accepted in 1967, was entitled "Investigation of suitability characteristics in sprinting". In 1978 he completed his PhD A at the DHfK with a thesis on "The function of imperialist ideology in the manipulation and motivation of imperialist top athletes in the FRG to achieve top athletic performance: a current study on the ideological preparation of top athletes in the FRG". In his PhD B , submitted in 1984, Mattausch dealt with the topic “Sports science in the FRG - formation process and prevailing theoretical-ideological tendencies”.

From 1988 until the university was closed at the end of 1990, he held a professorship for the theory of physical culture at the DHfK and was Vice-Rector from spring to December 1990. At the last gymnastics festival in the GDR, held in 1987, Mattausch was deputy head of the organization office.

In May 1990 he became chairman of the city sports association in Leipzig. Mattausch was active as a member of the organizing committee, head of public relations and logistics manager at the Friedensfahrt . He was Vice President of VfB Leipzig .

As chairman of the organizing committee, Mattausch prepared the 31st German Gymnastics Festival 2002 in Leipzig from August 2001 , but was given a leave of absence five days before the start of the event. As a result of media reports, Mattausch had admitted that at the end of the 1970s he was a reserve officer of the National People's Army (NVA) in foreign intelligence and that he had collected information for the GDR's military intelligence in the course of trips abroad. As part of this activity, he was used in western countries (Italy, Austria and Germany) for the recruitment of soldiers. He had never committed himself to this activity in writing, but acted out of conviction, since he had "somehow contributed to safeguarding the peace," he told the Neues Deutschland newspaper in mid-May 2002. Compared to the Leipziger Volkszeitung , he regretted that his espionage activities were kept secret have, however, also done so in order not to endanger people in the FRG with whom he was in contact at the time. He was not an unofficial employee of the Ministry for State Security , according to Mattausch.

Mattausch later founded the Institute for Holistic Prevention in Leipzig, became a member of the Science Council of the German Society for Prevention & Health Promotion, was Vice President Research and Teaching involved in setting up the University of Applied Sciences for Sport & Management Potsdam (FHSMP), founded in 2009, and at the German Professional Academy for Sport and health in Baunatal as a lecturer specializing in "event marketing, practice in partner companies" and in the area of ​​"sport in old age".
