Niehusmann played in various productions for ZDF and WDR. With Peter Härtling and Scot Weir he organized evenings for Schubert and Hölderlin . The musician has suffered from two-handed focal dystonia since 1995.
His compositions, which include two concertinos, songs, duos and solo works for guitar, have been published by various publishers, as have his CD recordings. In 2015 Volker Niehusmann composed a Passion for two guitars and speakers. Various features and interviews have been published in international journals (Guitar & Lute, 2/1993; Staccato; Soundboard (USA); Classic Guitar (South Korea)). His instruments include guitars by Dieter Hense, Richard and Martin Jacob (Weißgerber), Hermann Hauser III (10-string Folkwang model), Thorsten Lietz, and various lute instruments.
In addition to classical music, Volker Niehusmann also played jazz with his twin brother Georg (saxophone) and with the singer and cabaret artist Christiane Weber, who died in 2012 .
Since 1998 the musician has also appeared as a visual artist with a solo exhibition. Since then he has been represented regularly with exhibitions.
