Volker Römheld

Volker Römheld (born November 22, 1941 in Schwaig near Nuremberg ; † November 27, 2013 in Stuttgart ) was a German agricultural scientist, plant physiologist and soil biologist at the University of Hohenheim .

Live and act

The school education was followed by a chemical engineering degree at the Ohm-Politechnikum in Nuremberg and an activity in the research laboratory of the pharmaceutical company Dr. R. Pfleger Chemie , Bamberg (1960–1964). A gardener apprenticeship in Kassel with an assistant examination in 1966 was followed by studies of horticulture at the Technical University of Berlin (1966–1970). As a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation , he attended the University of Leeds from 1971–1972 and worked there at the Botanical Institute at HW Woolhouse on the subject of iron absorption in ecotypes that are differently resistant to chlorosis . After returning, he was 1972 Research assistant at the Institute of Plant Nutrition at the Technical University in Berlin, the research continued and was there in 1979 with the thesis: mechanism of absorption and transfer of iron chelates in higher plants Dr. sc. agr. PhD. In 1979 he joined the Institute for Plant Nutrition at the University of Hohenheim as a research assistant. This was followed by his habilitation in 1988 with a license to teach the subject of plant nutrition, and in 1992 he was appointed professor of plant nutrition. From 1996 he was also visiting professor at the Zheijang Agricultural University , Hangzhou, People's Republic of China . Volker Römheld has been a retired professor since 2006.

Research priorities

Function, uptake and fertilization of micronutrients, genotypic differences in nutrient appropriation (especially P and micronutrients); Importance of bioeffectors , rhizosphere processes for nutrient appropriation and plant health; Plant nutrition in organic farming, plant nutrition in the tropics and subtropics, environmental aspects of fertilization (nitrogen, heavy metals); Phytoremediation, recycling of agricultural and industrial waste and residues; Scientific cooperations with England, Hungary, Israel, USA, Canada, Japan, China, Brazil, Thailand, New Zealand.

Publications

Römheld was involved in around 300 publications, mainly in international scientific journals.
