Volker Starke
Volker Starke (born February 2, 1920 in Cuxhaven ; † April 4, 2002 in Hamburg ) was a German journalist and politician .
Life
Volker Starke was born in Cuxhaven. He grew up in Hamburg. In 1938 Starke graduated from high school in the Hanseatic city . In the same year he entered active service in the Wehrmacht and joined the NSDAP . As an officer , Volker Starke took part in the Second World War. In 1943 he was seriously wounded . After being wounded, Starke worked for radio in Berlin and Hamburg. In 1945 he became an employee of Radio Hamburg, from which the Nordwestdeutsche Rundfunk (NWDR) and later also the NDR emerged . Volker Starke worked together with Axel Eggebrecht and Peter von Zahn . Together with Jochen Richert and Ruprecht Essberger , Starke founded the German TV Lottery in 1958 .
Political and social engagement
Volker Starke was politically and socially involved. From 1966 to 1978 he was a member of the Hamburg parliament as a member of the CDU . In addition, Starke was chairman of the social association VdK Hamburg for twelve years . In 1981 he became the general shop steward for NDR employees with severe disabilities . Volker Starke was also an honorary judge at the regional social court . He was also a member of the Friends of the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial .
Works
Starke wrote the radio play Der Held . This is about an officer on the Eastern Front who commits disobedience out of responsibility towards people entrusted to him. The radio play was broadcast by NWDR in 1946.
