Volkert Martens

Volkert Martens (born November 20, 1897 in Oevenum auf Föhr , † October 31, 1972 ) was a German politician ( CDU ). From 1954 to 1967 he was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament .

education and profession

After Martens had completed the Real-Pädagogium in Wyk auf Föhr and the Oberrealschule in Sønderborg , he worked as a freelance businessman in Oevenum from 1919 to 1925 . In 1925 he became an independent farmer and domain tenant , and from 1935 he ran a 50 hectare farm.

politics

Martens had been a local representative since 1932, with interruptions from 1939 to 1947. In 1948 he became a member of the Husum district assembly , until 1955 he was deputy district president, then district president . In the state elections in 1954, 1958 and 1962, Martens was elected in constituency 5 (Husum-Land) as a direct candidate for the CDU in the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament. He was a member of parliament from October 11, 1954 to April 28, 1967. Martens was a member of Agricultural and finance committee of the state parliament.

On July 1, 1959, he took part in the third Federal Assembly as a substitute member , at which Heinrich Lübke was elected Federal President .

Martens was awarded the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1965 .
