Volkmar von Braunbehrens (born March 22, 1941 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German musicologist and publicist who made a name for himself in particular as a Mozart researcher.

Life

Braunbehrens went - like his brother Adrian - to the humanistic boarding school Birklehof and graduated from high school in the early 1960s. He studied literary history, musicology and art history in Munich, Heidelberg and Berlin, where he was active in the 1968 student movement. In 1972 he received his doctorate from the Free University of Berlin . He was co-founder and until 1981 co-editor of the "Berliner Hefte - Zeitschrift für Kultur und Politik" (publisher: Berlin, Kantstrasse, first edition 1976, with Walter Aschmoneit, Horst Domdey, Antonia Grunenberg , among others ) and was for many years director of the Berlin gallery on Savignyplatz. In 1982 he received his habilitation at the University of Osnabrück. He lives as a freelance writer in his hometown. His twin brother is Burkhart Braunbehrens .

Braunbehrens was a board member of the Humanist Union .

He is one of the partners in the German arms company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann . A campaign was therefore started against him in connection with a planned sale of tanks to Saudi Arabia in June 2012 with the aim of putting the shareholders in the company in the limelight and, among other things, bringing Braunbehrens to prison.
