Volkmar Schneider (doctor)

Volkmar Schneider (born January 21, 1940 in Dessau ) is a German forensic doctor and former director of the Institute for Forensic Medicine at the Charité and at the same time the State Institute for Forensic and Social Medicine in Berlin -Moabit.

Life

After graduating from the Scharnhorst School in Hildesheim, Schneider studied medicine at the Free University of Berlin and at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf from 1959 to 1967 . In 1976 he became a professor at the Free University of Berlin.

From 1983 to 2006 he was director of the West Berlin Institute for Forensic Medicine at the FU, which was merged with the East Berlin Institute of the Humboldt University in 2003 as part of the reorganization of Berlin University Medicine at the Charité . Within East Berlin forensic medicine, Schneider succeeded the institute director emeritus Gunther Geserick , who had been in office since 1987.

In 2007 he was replaced as director of the institute by Michael Tsokos after his retirement .
