history
Volksbank Bautzen
In an inflation that has been evident since 1919, the Gewerbebank Bautzen eGmbH was founded on June 15, 1921. The first chairman was the master bookbinder Oskar Klahre, who opened the bank on August 15, 1921 in the storerooms of the bookbinding guild in Bautzen, Vor dem Schülertor 21. After another move, the rooms were located at Goschwitzstraße 23 for 68 years, until after the acquisition of the Goschwitzstraße 25 building and its conversion and extension in 1991, this modernized domicile was opened as the new main office on October 5, 1995.
In 1923, inflation made it necessary to increase the membership from 2,000 to 200,000 marks. Despite all the economic problems, the bank survived this period of crisis.
In the 3rd Reich it was one of the few who kept the name "Gewerbebank Bautzen eGmbH" until 1946. All commercial banks had to rename themselves to Volksbanken in 1939 as part of the “Gleichschaltung”. In 1947, like all former Volksbanks in the Soviet occupation zone, it was renamed “Bank für Handwerk und Gewerbe Bautzen eGmbH”. Also on a central order, it was renamed “Genossenschaftsbank für Handwerk und Gewerbe Bautzen” in 1970 and “Genossenschaftsbank für Handwerk und Gewerbe Bautzen” in 1974. In 1971 the cooperative bank for craft and trade in Bautzen merged with the cooperative bank for craft and trade in Sohland. The latter was continued as a branch and could be obtained in 1982 in return for a state-required takeover by the Kreissparkasse Bautzen.
When the political turnaround was initiated in the GDR in 1989 , the cooperative bank for handicrafts and trades Bautzen was active in the introduction of the market economy and on March 10, 1990 adopted the name “Volksbank Bautzen eG”.
This was followed in 1992 by the merger with Raiffeisenbank eG Bautzen, which had emerged from the “Loan Savings Banks Association Malschwitz” founded in 1895. The merger took place in 1998 with the “Volks- und Raiffeisenbank Hoyerswerda eG”, which was formed from the former farming trade cooperatives.
After the Raiffeisenbanks Bischofswerda and Kamenz and Volksbank Großröhrsdorf eG the Volksbank Westlausitz eG was created, the merger with this bank took place on June 3, 2002. In the meantime, a branch network had been created consisting of 6 financial centers in Bautzen, Bischofswerda, Sohland , Pulsnitz, Kamenz and Hoyerswerda.
Dresdner Volksbank Raiffeisenbank
The predecessor of the Dresdner Volksbank Raiffeisenbank was the first gardeners' cooperative bank in Saxony, founded in Dresden-Stetzsch in August 1905. From 1990 it traded as Volksbank Dresden eG . Later it was called Dresdner Volksbank Raiffeisenbank eG .
In August 2017, Volksbank Bautzen eG merged with Dresdner Volksbank Raiffeisenbank eG to form Volksbank Dresden-Bautzen eG .
