location
The mountain is located in the northern part of the urban area of Gerolzhofen in the Lower Franconian district of Schweinfurt . At the foot of the village is the Michelau market in the Steigerwald . The Vollberg is slightly higher than the neighboring mountain ranges and largely separated from them; In addition, it protrudes far into the flatter landscape in front of it, which is around 150 meters lower. This makes the mountain look very striking, especially from the west side and can be seen from afar. The Rauhe Ebrach flows east of the mountain .
Attractions
The ring wall Vollburg is located on the mountain . This is an abandoned early medieval ring wall. Only a remnant of the wall of the former oval castle , presumably a refuge from the Hallstatt period , on an area of around 240 by 120 meters is preserved. The area is under monumental protection with the designation "Prehistoric hilltop settlement with finds from the end neolithic as well as the late Hallstatt and early Latène times as well as the early medieval ramparts" Vollburg "(D-6-6028-00555).
