Volumnio Bandinelli (* 1598 in Siena , † June 5, 1667 in Rome ) was an Italian Catholic cardinal and patriarch .

Volumnio Bandinelli was born in Siena in 1598 as a member of a noble family.

In 1649 he was a member of the Accademia dei Filomati , in September 1650 he became a member of the Accademia della Crusca under the academic name "Rimpastato", later "Lacero" . From 1643 to 1644 he administered the Monte dei Paschi di Siena . After his marriage, he lived with his children as the tutor of Cosimo III. de 'Medici at the court of the Grand Duke of Tuscany . Long after the death of his wife, his friend, the new Pope Alexander VII , called him to Rome and named him in honor of camerlengo . On May 29, 1657 he became canon of St. Peter's Basilica and later auditor of the Apostolic Chamber .

On April 29, 1658 he was appointed cardinal in pectore in the consistory .

On June 3, 1658 he was elected titular patriarch of Constantinople . Two days later he became Prefect of the Apostolic Palace, Governor of Castelgandolfo and Assistant to the Papal Throne. He held these offices until April 5, 1660, when his election as cardinal was published in the consistory. The consecration took place on June 10, 1658 in the church of Santa Caterina da Siena in Rome by Cardinal Scipione Pannocchieschi d'Elci , the Archbishop of Pisa. On April 19, 1660, Bandinelli received the cardinal's hat and the titular church Santi Silvestro e Martino ai Monti .

On May 5, 1660, he became papal legate of Romagna and held this office until 1664.

At the conclave of 1667 he did not participate because he died during the celebrations on 5 June 1667th His burial took place in the Lateran basilica under the grave of his ancestor Pope Alexander III.
