The Von-Weiß-Straße 8 building is a villa in Königswinter , a town in the Rhein-Sieg district in North Rhine-Westphalia , which was built in 1883. It is located on Von-Weiß-Strasse at the corner of Rheinallee, the Königswinterer Rhine embankment promenade, and its property borders on Villa Leonhart to the south . The villa stands as a monument under monument protection .

history

The headquarters of the quarry and stone carving company of the local Bachem family ( Bachem & Cie. ) That had emerged from the Königswinterer Steinhauer union (founded in 1817) was located in the house . At that time it was located on the so-called "Hammerich", an old stone loading and hut square.

On February 13, 1991, an attack by a command of the Red Army Faction (RAF) was carried out on the building of the US embassy on the opposite side of the Rhine in the Rüngsdorf district of Bonn, about 500 m away . A machine gun used in the act was placed on a cushion on the wall enclosure on Rheinallee at the level of the chapel-like extension.

The villa was entered in the monuments list of the city of Königswinter on February 26, 1991.

The villa is a two-storey exposed brick building with neo-Gothic ornamental forms in sandstone . To Von-Weiß-Straße it has a risalit-like projection with bay window and gable , to which a loggia adjoins on the garden side . The Rhine is a balcony and Zwerchhaus equipped and has a lateral extensions of a chapel-like extension with tall pointed arch windows and a hipped roof and an underlying octagonal tower with spire . The entrance is on the garden side and shows the year of construction of the building in the lintel . The enclosure of the property forms a wall base with an iron fence and an iron gate. The villa has largely been preserved in its original condition and is also characterized by high-quality detail forms.
