from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The von Arnim'sche Villa was the residence of Curt and Maria von Arnim in Großauheim , today a district of Hanau . The house is now a listed building .

Geographical location

The von Arnim'sche Villa is located at Sandgasse 32 in Hanau-Großauheim, in the Main-Kinzig district , Hesse .

history

Curt and Maria von Arnim settled in Großauheim in 1899, where he ran a branch of the family-owned iron and enamelling works in Tangerhütte, the Marienhütte . The factory in Tangerhütte produced - in addition to the items mentioned in the name - decorative parts for buildings and gardens made of artificial stone and concrete .

The von Arnim couple built a house in the immediate vicinity of the factory. It dates from 1900. The architect was E. Schramm. The concrete enclosure dates from 1908, the gardens from 1908 to 1910. The facility, in particular its rammed concrete enclosure and the garden decorations, are also a permanent exhibition of the products manufactured by the parent plant.

The complex is now a cultural monument due to the Hessian Monument Protection Act for historical, artistic and urban planning reasons.

building

The residential building is two-story, eaves with a central projection . Outwardly designed like a villa , it was an apartment building. There were two apartments on the ground floor and one on the upper floor, which was a bit more representative, with a kitchen and the bedroom in the risalit, a living room, a reception room and two guest rooms.

The complex was also made more representative by the construction of the enclosure, the unusual "shed decor" of which was already shown in a plan from 1908. The intermediate pillars carry pine cones, the gate pillars lush fruit baskets. The garden, which adjoins the house on the back, was framed on the other sides by arcades, which flow into a pergola in the central axis. This is by stairways fluted columns and small stone - sphinxes staged. When designing the garden, less attention was paid to the plants than to the furniture. In addition to pedestal vases and a pyramid with a spherical top, female busts and an exedra with a round table have been preserved. The complex has a Biedermeier-like appearance and is a testament to the retrospective gardening art of the early 20th century.
