Jerick Deshun McKinnon (* 3. May 1992 in Atlanta , Georgia ) is an American American football poker players in the position of running back . He currently plays for the San Francisco 49ers in the National Football League (NFL).

Early years

McKinnon grew up in Marietta , Georgia , and played football in high school there .

college

From 2010 to 2013 McKinnon attended Georgia Southern University and during that time played college football for the Georgia Southern Eagles , who were playing in the Southern Conference at the time.

In college , McKinnon not only played as a running back , but was also used as a quarterback . Due to his small size, however, he had no future in the latter position.

McKinnon was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the third round in the third round in the 2014 NFL Draft .

In his rookie season, he mainly played a backup role behind starting player Adrian Peterson .

During the following seasons in 2015 and 2016 he was able to consolidate his place in the team. In the 2017 season McKinnon was only used more often after rookie running back Dalvin Cook , who was drafted by the Vikings in the 2017 NFL Draft in the 2nd round and who was able to shine as a starting player after Peterson's departure, on 4. Matchday had injured and should be eliminated with a cruciate ligament for the rest of the season. McKinnon then showed some remarkable performances as a Cook substitute in alternation with running back Latavius ​​Murray , including against the Cincinnati Bengals .

San Francisco 49ers

On March 14, 2018, McKinnon signed a four-year deal for $ 30 million with the San Francisco 49ers . McKinnon tore his cruciate ligament in training during the preseason . This injury ended his season prematurely, which is why the 49ers put him on the Injured Reserve List on September 3, 2018 .
