von oom , in the more recent spelling also von-oom , is an amateur band founded in 1982 from Neuhaus am Rennweg in Thuringia . Some of the band's own productions were released on the radio in the 1980s.

The band was founded in early 1982 by employees of the VEB microelectronics " Anna Seghers " in Neuhaus am Rennweg. The name “von oom” (from above) refers to the status of Neuhaus am Rennweg as the highest district town in the GDR . The band had their first appearance on May 1, 1982 in what was then the dining room of the Röhrenwerk in Werk 1. Von oom was influenced by the newly fashionable Neue Deutsche Welle and was the first band in this region to play songs like Da da da , Hurra, hurra, the school is on fire , the pig that was enthusiastically received by the audience.

In the original line-up, von oom played at various FDJ workshop weeks at district and republic level, at larger events such as the “Pop-Markt”, at press festivals, television programs (e.g. around ) and at numerous youth events in the Suhl district . When transmitter Weimar several original songs were produced, which were also sent to the then charts (z. B. We are of oom, The Elephant, I choose your number and Naughty net me how old I am ). Von oom toured in Poland and together with the Leipzig group “Studioteam” in Bulgaria on Sunny Beach .

1986 saw the first line-up when Hubert Koch took over the organization of the band. With the new drummer Thomas Zitzmann, for the first time, it was not a pipe worker but a porcelain painter who joined the band. In the same year, a new chapter in the collaboration between musicians and discotheques began with the “aktion von oom” project. Falk Langbein as a DJ worked with von oom on a concept for the implementation of events and toured with the band through the entire GDR. Also at the end of 1986 von oom brought Birgit Porzel to sing Bromm Oss . She also appeared as a solo dancer (jazz dance) at “aktion von oom”. In March 1988, drummer Thomas Zitzmann had to give up for health reasons, Frank Müller ( the Bucker ) joined the band for him . Almost at the same time there was another change. In May 1988 Siegfried Stempel was drawn to the NVA . Holger Lattermann came to von oom from Königsee , who played the bass guitar for almost a year and was later replaced by Frank Mewes ( Memphis ). Birgit Porzel and Bernd Körner left the band at the end of 1988 to start their own group (“Lady B. and JoJo”). Frank ( Cowboy ) Wittenbecher then sang and played for Körner . After his failed escape from the GDR , Burkhard ( Rudi ) Hess joined the band in the summer of 1989 . A total of 17 musicians were involved in the oom project and its musical environment.

In the last large line-up - Jürgen Müller (vocals, guitar), Burkhard Heß (vocals, guitar), Frank Mewes (vocals, bass), Frank Müller (drums), Wolfgang Kob (keyboard) - von oom then played over the time of the turnaround. The last major appearance in this line-up was in 1990 in Würzburg for the Free and Outdoor Festival. Today von oom still consists of Jürgen Müller and Wolfgang Kob. The band plays songs from CCR to Westernhagen, from Maffay to Springsteen, from Schlager to Rock at events . 19-inch devices are used for drums and bass.

On April 30, 2007, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary, von oom played with most of the former members in the Kulturhaus Neuhaus am Rennweg. On April 30, 2012 there was a concert for the band's 30th anniversary with DJ Falk Langbein and former band members, this time also with Frank Wittenbecher.

Cover text of the LP (excerpt): VON OOM - actually comes "from above"; from the highest district town of the GDR, Neuhaus am Rennweg. Similar to their colleagues from “Bromm Oss” and the “Attikas”, the musicians sometimes use the local dialect in their titles. The band was founded in January 1983 and has been one of the most popular dance bands in Thuringia ever since. The “Outstanding Folk Art Collective” has already made two guest appearances in VR Poland and also received one of the coveted cultural trips for 1985 as an award at the VII FDJ workshop week for youth dance music in Suhl .
