Forest brothers

On October 1, 1949, the Soviet security authorities shot and killed seven Estonian resistance fighters (" forest brothers "). They had been hiding in a tent camp there. As the only member of the group, the forest brother Kalev Arro was able to escape seriously injured. He was shot dead by the KGB in June 1974 .

A memorial stone commemorates the dead forest brothers on site. Below is another memorial for the forest brother Karl Timusk, who was killed by the security forces in April 1945.
