Piigaste

Piigaste (German Alt-Pigast ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in southeast Estonia . It belongs to the rural municipality of Kanepi ( Kõlleste until 2017 ) in Põlva County .
Population and location
The village has 87 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). It is located 29 kilometers northwest of the city of Võru .
The village center is south of the Leevi River (Leevi jõgi) . Northeast of the village center is the 11.4 hectare lake Janokjärv (also Jänukjärv ). The 14 km long Piigaste (Piigaste oja) stream flows through it .
Well
In 1450 the villages Pyks and Pulmetze are mentioned for the first time. Between 1450 and 1510, the Pulmeze farm was built in place of the village of the same name. At the end of the 16th century it was moved to the village of Pyks or Pigast . In 1582 he was recorded under the name Piggasth . In 1801 Neu-Pigast , which is now part of the village of Tiido, is divided.
The two-story stone mansion from the end of the 18th century is still preserved. It was heavily redesigned during the 20th century. Today it is privately owned.
graveyard
Today the overgrown remains of the old Piigaste cemetery can still be found in the district of Kullamäe. The name of the aristocratic Baltic German Pfeiffer family, who owned the farm at the beginning of the 20th century, is found on a grave slab .
