history

The first information about the village of Kolles comes from 1544. The farm of Krootuse was first mentioned in 1549 under the name of Kollis . At that time it belonged to the mayor of Tartu , Elert Kruse († 1587).

As a result, the estate often changed hands. The Estonian name of the current village is derived from the owner Joachim von Rothausen (1634-1683), who owned the farm in the 17th century.

In 1742 the estate fell to the noble Baltic German family Stackelberg . At the beginning of the 20th century it belonged to the Estonian Johann Andreas Kurrikoff.

During the Soviet occupation of Estonia, the village of Krootuse was the center of a sovkhoz . It was named after the Estonian communist Voldemar Sassi (1899–1941).
