The museum shows finds from the Stone , Bronze and Iron Ages up to the time of the Great Migration. The focus of the museum is on the representation of the regional development history.
The museum, sponsored by the district of Roth, was founded in 1983 and housed in a building that was originally built as a granary in 1828, but was later used as the town hall. The permanent exhibition on the first floor was designed in collaboration with the Natural History Society of Nuremberg . The ground floor is available for special exhibitions and museum educational activities on workable reconstructions . The showpieces of the exhibition included an almost 4,000-year-old stool grave of a man from the cord ceramic culture as well as an elaborate replica of a Hallstatt-era burial chamber including grave goods of a Celtic lady, which was completely excavated and researched in Landersdorf from 1983 to 1986 . The most recent finds date from the 6th and 7th centuries AD, when the Bavarian tribe settled in Thalmässing and created a burial ground .
A connected archaeological hiking trail leads to sites on the nearby edge of the Jura .
