Vulcano is a Brazilian metal band that was founded in 1981 in Santos , São Paulo under the name Astaroth . She is considered to be one of the first Brazilian representatives in extreme metal .

history

The band was founded in 1981 by bassist (later guitarist) Zhema Rodero, guitarist Paulo Magrão and bassist Carli Cooper under the name Astaroth. In 1983 a first 7 "single called Om Pushne Namah was released. This was followed by some self-organized appearances and a first demo with Devil on My Roof in 1984. Further regional appearances in São Paulo and changes in the line-up took place. In 1985 the band released the live album Live! . It was recorded in Americana in August . It was the first live album from the metal genre to be released in Brazil. The album featured bassist Zhema Rodero, guitarists Soto Jr and Zé Flávio, drummer Laudir Piloni and singer Angel.

In this line-up, the first studio album Bloody Vengeance was released in 1986. In the following years the band released three more albums, Anthropophagy (1987), Who are the True (1988) and Ratrace (1990). After the release of Ratrace , the band took a break and played only a few more gigs together. During the break, the label Cogumelo Records re-released the previously released albums. The band only got back together in 2000.

In December 2001 the death of guitarist Soto Jr. was announced. In 2003 the band recorded a new album called Tales from the Black Book . Bassist was Zhema Rodero, Angel took over the position of singer, Arthur Vasconcelos was the drummer, André Martins and Cláudio Passamani played the electric guitars. The album was released in February 2004.

In 2005 the line-up changed again. It was composed as follows: Zhema Rodero (electric guitar), Angel (vocals), Arthur Justo (drums), Carlos Diaz (electric bass) and Fernando Nonath (electric guitar). In 2006 they released the split album Thunder Metal , which was recorded together with the Swedish band Nifelheim .

In 2009 the album Five Skulls and One Chalice was released through Cogumelo Records . The album featured singer Luiz Carlos Louzada, who had previously worked for Vulcano, so two singers could be heard on the album.

In early 2010, singer Angel left the band, so Luiz Carlos Louzada became a permanent singer. The band also consisted of Arthur Justo (drums), Zhema Rodero (electric guitar), Fernando Nonath (electric guitar) and Carlos Diaz (electric bass).

style

The band's music is described as a mix of black and thrash metal. The song structures are kept simple, with the songs having an aggressive and fast character. Vulcano is compared to bands like Protector , Messiah and Bulldozer .
