Vydas Gedvilas (born May 17, 1959 in Užgiriai , Rajongemeinde Kelmė ) is a Lithuanian basketball coach and politician, President of Parliament (2012-2013), first Vice-President (2013-2016).

Life

After graduating from high school in Luokė in the district of Telšiai in 1977 , he graduated with honors from Lietuvos valstybinis kūno kultūros institutas (LVKKI) in 1981 and became a sports teacher. From 1985 to 1988 he completed his postgraduate studies and in 1999 received his doctorate in biomedicine . Since 1981 he has taught at LVKKI, from 2001 to 2004 as prorector.

He has been a member of Darbo Partija since 2004 and a member of the Seimas since 2004 , Chairman of the Seimas from November 2012 to October 2013, and first Deputy Chairman of the Seimas until November 2016. In 2011 he was elected to Kaunas City Council.

Sports

From 1988 to 1993 he was assistant coach of " Atletas " of the LVKKI, three times Lithuanian champion. From 1993 to 2004 he was head coach of the women's team "Viktorija" of the LKKA and from 1996 to 2002 head coach of the Lithuanian national women's team.
