The pair of guardians of Nobbin are two monoliths that are set up as guardians of the great stone grave of Nobbin . They are near the district of Nobbin in the Putgarten community on Rügen in the Vorpommern-Rügen district .

geography

The megalithic complex built from boulders is one of the larger in northern Germany and is located a few meters from the cliff to Tromper Wiek . It is made accessible to tourists by a cycling and hiking trail Juliusruh - Cape Arkona with a rest hut and information boards . To the southwest of the border stand the two large guardian stones .

history

The complex belongs to the Neolithic Funnel Beaker Culture (TBK) (around 4200 BC to 2800 BC). The guard stones and the other stones of the border of the megalithic bed are up to 1 m high. 39 of the former 53 stones are still preserved.

In 1932/33 the facility was measured, examined and in part covered by excavations, but these did not affect the guard stones. This excavation was carried out by Wilhelm Petzsch and Wilde, and in 1970 the investigation was repeated with partial excavations by Ewald Schuldt .

Material and dimensions

At the broad end of Nobbin's trapezoidal bed are the guard stones, 3.3 and 3.4 m high and weighing 25 t each. The eastern one is about 1.5 m deep and 1 m wide, the western one is slightly smaller. They are about 1 m in the earth and are about 2.3 and 2.4 m above ground. They are made of light reddish granite .
