history

Wöllnau is a street green village. Wöllnau was first mentioned in a document in 1314, although it was probably a settlement a little further northeast of today's Wöllnau. Until 1815, the village belonged to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Eilenburg . The resolutions of the Congress of Vienna led to Prussia and in 1816 it was assigned to the Delitzsch district in the Merseburg administrative district of the province of Saxony , to which it belonged until 1952.

Wöllnau had the highest population in 1950 with 567. In the course of the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, Wöllnau was attached to the Eilenburg district in the Leipzig district , which was added to the Delitzsch district in 1994 . On January 1, 1996, it was merged with five other municipalities to form the municipality of Doberschütz.

Attractions

The village church in Wöllnau dates from the 13th century. It was built in Romanesque style from lawn iron stone and brick . On the roof of the church hall there is an octagonal roof turret with a tent roof. In 1701 the church was renovated in a baroque style. In 1972 the baroque furnishings were expanded again except for the altarpiece from 1701. There is also a Gothic font from the 13th century in the church.

Sports

The 1st German mud football championship took place in Wöllnau on June 6, 2009.
