Mensdorf was a village north of the city of Eilenburg and was united in 1936 to form the unit village of Mörtitz . Today the place belongs to the municipality of Doberschütz in the northern Saxony district of the Free State of Saxony .

Geographical location

Mensdorf lies north of Eilenburg. In the west the Mulde flows past the place and in the east the state road 11 (Eilenburg – Bad Düben) passes. The district Mörtitz consists of the settlement areas Mörtitz, Mensdorf and Rote Jahne.

Mensdorf

The oldest written mention of the place under the name "Mezdorf" comes from the year 1314. Since 1404 Mensdorf was first called a knight's seat. In 1678 numerous ancient urns were found in Mensdorf an der Mulde. Mensdorf belonged to the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon Office of Eilenburg until 1815 . The resolutions of the Congress of Vienna led to Prussia and in 1816 it was assigned to the Delitzsch district in the Merseburg administrative district of the province of Saxony , to which it belonged until 1952.

Red Jahne

The village of Rothejane northeast of Mensdorf is documented around 1350. Around 1529 the place is called a desert . Like Mensdorf, Rothejane belonged to the Saxon office of Eilenburg until 1815 and came to Prussia in 1815 and in 1816 to the Prussian district of Delitzsch through the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna. In 1822 the Vorwerk Rothejane is occupied. In 1936 the Eilenburg airfield in Rothejane opened under the code name “Maas” for military use. After a break of 14 years, it was used again for military purposes from 1959 to 1990. After 1990 a training center for civil aviation was set up at Eilenburg airfield for a short time . Since November 8, 2002 Rote Jahne has been designated as a new part of the municipality of Doberschütz.

History since the incorporation to Mörtitz in 1936

On April 1, 1936, Mensdorf and Rote Jahne were incorporated into Mörtitz. In the course of the second district reform in the GDR in 1952, Mörtitz was joined with Mensdorf and Rothejane to the Eilenburg district in the Leipzig district , which was added to the Delitzsch district in 1994 . In 1996 Mörtitz was incorporated with five other municipalities to form the municipality of Doberschütz.
