history

View over Wöschbach

Wöschbach was first mentioned in a document in 1297 under the name "Wesebach". Until the beginning of the 19th century, the place was under the Speyer Monastery and therefore remained Catholic in the 16th century, while most of the other neighboring towns under Baden-Durlach became Protestant. It lost almost all of its population during the Thirty Years War . Many residents died in the two world wars, public buildings and houses were destroyed. Around 400 displaced persons found a new home in Wöschbach after the end of the Second World War . At that time, about 1200 citizens lived in Wöschbach.

On January 1, 1974, Wöschbach was incorporated into the new Pfinztal community.

traffic

Town hall in Wesostraße

The place can be reached regularly by public transport using the AVG bus route 151 to Berghausen at least every 30 minutes on weekdays. In Berghausen there is a connection to the tram.

The district road 3541 is the main traffic connection of the place, it merges into the Wesostraße and ends at a bus turning point. A single-lane, but heavily used, connecting road leads to Söllingen.

economy

At the entrance to Wöschbach you will find the “Im Täle” industrial park. Within the village there are various shops on Wesostraße (formerly Hauptstraße) with offers for daily needs - such as B. Baker and butcher.

education

Like all places in the Pfinztal, Wöschbach also has a primary school. There are two kindergartens for the younger children.

Churches and denominations

The predominantly Catholic Wöschbach has a Catholic church near the town hall. The Evangelical Regional Church and the New Apostolic Church each have a chapel in Wöschbach.

Public facilities

Wöschbach has a multi-purpose hall that can be used for club parties and sporting events. At the entrance to the village there is the so-called fairground with a covered hall and stage, where village festivals often take place.

A fire station was rebuilt around 2005 at the entrance to the village.

Attractions

Kreuzwanderweg

The cross hiking trail around Wöschbach leads past different types of road, devotional, path and field crosses. Many similar stone crosses can also be found in the neighboring municipality of Jöhlingen.

Church of John the Baptist

The church of John the Baptist of the Catholic parish is one of the most beautiful churches in Pfinztal. After its humble beginnings as a chapel, the church was consecrated in its current form in 1895. It was badly damaged by an air raid on the night of 28-29 July 1944 and the church roof was completely destroyed. After the war, the damage was repaired and further renovations were carried out in three construction phases in 1950, 1962/64 and 1987/88.

coat of arms

The place has had its coat of arms since the 19th century. Today's presentation goes back to a proposal by the Badisches Generallandesarchiv from 1901 and reminds us that the place belonged to the cathedral chapter of Speyer until 1803.

The description reads: In blue a faceted silver shield, enlivened with a red heart shield, inside the golden village symbol.
